If you’ve fallen in love with a movie, book, or TV show recently, try to recreate it during your next home remodelling project using these examples as inspiration.

You’ve just put down your favourite novel after reading it for the umpteenth time. It’s easy to feel a little sad that it’s over, but what if you could hold onto the way that book made you feel a little longer? Renovating a room in your home that captures the theme of the book may do just that.

For inspiration, we’ve compiled a few of our favourite themed house renovation ideas, based on everything from film and TV shows to books and popular destinations.

1. Curious George

A beloved children’s book classic, Curious George is the story of a monkey that gets into all kinds of innocent altercations while adventuring in the big city. With a home renovation contractor and a little help from “the man in the yellow hat,” you could recreate this look in almost any room of the home by turning that room into a jungle theme.

If you don’t want to incorporate a full-on jungle or cityscape, incorporate brown and yellow colour throughout the room instead. For a little extra flair, toss in a few safari pieces as well. Another great way to play up the Curious George theme is to hang framed covers of your favourite books on the wall.

2. Star Wars

The Star Wars franchise is iconic—seen and admired by millions of people from all over the world. With that kind of fanfare, it’s easy to see why some homeowners have already incorporated these themed rooms. With a lot of enthusiasm to boot!

If you have a media or entertainment room in your home, go ahead and embellish it with everything Star Wars related. Don’t forget to hang your original Star Wars posters as well!

3. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

After reading this classic novel, it’s hard not to yearn for the sea. Unfortunately, life in the Okanagan doesn’t provide easy access to the ocean. Instead of heading to the coast every chance you get, bring the sea into your home. While this theme can be carried out in nearly any room of your home, we particularly like the way it looks in the master bathroom.

4. Batman

Batman has been a fan favourite since his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. With the help of Batman’s numerous gadgets and iconic vehicles, there are a variety of different ways homeowners can transform their home into one fit for a superhero.
